Places: St. Marks Basilica, in Venice

I was looking at some old photos and found these from last year at St. Marks Basilica in Venice, taken in February 2016. It really is an architectural masterpiece. As one walks around this beautiful gem, we can’t help but be in utter awe.

It was constructed over many centuries and has many different architectural influences, which is one of the reasons why it is so special and unique. Outside it is understated and sort of subdued, merely calling softly the attentive onlookers. But on the inside it is really quite magical and surreal. The infinite coloured patterns and tiles on the floors are so intricate and different that we can’t help but be magnetised by them, following those labyrinth like geometries with our eyes. But as we wander and look upwards… we  also almost gasp in awe at the gold shimmering with fading lights.

I think it’s better if the pictures do the talking…
